Goodbye to Jazzman

Last July, Dottie Belle was the first goat to kid here at Thornhill Acre.  She had 1 buckling that weighed 5 lbs.  The average size for a newborn Nigerian Dwarf kid is 2.5 lbs. So he was a big fellow and I was so lucky that the birth was easy.  He had great coloration and clear blue eyes; but I can't start out keeping every kid that is born here.  So when I got a chance to sell him to a good home, I did.
Jazzman
Anyway my grandson, Connor, came over and I told him that the lady had just left who bought Jazzman.   Connor was very disappointed that I would sell a boy.  He believes the farm has too few males.  How do you explain to a 6 year old boy that a farm doesn't need very many male animals?

Billy Shakespeare
I told him that it was okay to sell Jazzman, because Shakespeare was now living with Honey Bunny, so we should have some new kids in March or April.  He replied, "No, Shakespeare is Dottie Belle's husband."  I told him that boy goats could have 3 wives; since I have 3 does. His eyes lit-up and I knew what that little boy was thinking. In the past few months he told me there were too many beautiful girls for him to have just one girl friend.

Honey Bunny
Therefore, I quickly added, but people can only have 1 husband or wife.  His expression quickly changed and he said, "But what if there are just too many beautiful women?"  I then said, "Well then you are not in love, so you can't get married." There are such tough lessons to learn.

A Present for Gigi

My fountain
My children and I went in together to buy my mother a fountain for her birthday.  I wanted to buy her one like I did for myself; but when I went back a month later they were sold out.  I like the sound it makes.  To me it sounds like water in a cave, but Bridget said it sound like a running toilet to her.
Anyway, we had to find a different one.  Bridget was the one to spot the fountain we bought for Mother.  It had roses on it and was light weight enough that she and I could deliver it and set it up.  Also, if Mom ever wants to move it, she can easily.

I just hope that Mother will enjoy it as much as Kennedy and Connor did. Mother wrote a post on our visit also on her blog @ http://gardeningwithjuanita.blogspot.com/2012/07/welcomed-visiters.html

Grandparents Day With Connor

I've been such a bad blogger.  So much is going on which gives me a lot of material to blog about, but no time to actually write a post.  Anyway, I'm going to catch up on my writing and reading other blogs.

Last Friday was Grandparents Day for the Kindergarten classes.  I wasn't quite aware of all the expectations.  I understood there was a performance by the Kindergarteners, but then the Grandparent was suppose to check out the grandchild and spend the day with him.  Well, Connor was a guy with a plan with included lunch of his choice and a movie.

2 grandmothers, great grandmother and grandfather
My Mom was in town, so she went to the program.

Connor's other set of grandparents came also.  So he had quite a group of fans.

The program had a Cowboy theme; which was just up Connor's alley.  He is always trying to ride my little goats when I'm not watching.

Don't know what the pout is about.

Afterward the program, it was off to the Frozen Frog.  Yes, we had yogurt with a large array of toppings for lunch.  I have to admit that's my favorite lunch too.

Then just Connor and I went to see the movie Chimpanzee. On the way to the theater Connor expressed his excitement about going to see Chimpanzee.  He said, "My heart has been hurting to see this movie ever since they said it was coming to the theater."  Like a good grandmother, I did not laugh.  I just said, "I know.  I've wanted to see it too.

He might have had candy, popcorn and coke for dinner.
