The School Board members kept checking their emails today for information about the Superintendent's contract. I must have checked 5 times. His contract extension was first on the agenda at the work session on March 8th. But Vision 2020 was also and the boardroom was packed with citizens of our parish. When we came to the contract agenda item there was no information to discuss. That's not too strange. Anytime something is going to be controversial we don't get the information to read carefully and discuss. So when we came to the voting meeting on March 22nd the contract was no longer on the agenda. There had been an intense public outcry about Vision 2020 and the bad shape our budget is in--like $20 million in the red. The board room was packed again.
This is very bad timing to discuss the Superintendent's contract in any favorable manner. Does he want an increase in salary? When he has recommended that we freeze all other employees salaries, including the little increment that teachers' get for another year of experience? Employees have not gotten a raise in the 3 years he has been here. What extra benefits does he want?
The extension of his contract was put on the work session agenda again, April 5th, with no information. Today at 5:30 pm all board members got an e-mail for the Superintendent saying to get in touch with our attorney for information about his contract. We have been told that we must vote for or against his contract extension at our next board meeting which is this coming Tuesday, April 19th.
I'm just wondering if others see this as a very bad sign. I see another haste makes waste situation. He has put it off until it is too late for us to read it carefully, ask questions and truly think about it. When I am backed into a corner like this, I always say NO--HELL NO. I don't play these games.
Write a comment PLEASE. I know the funny, interesting, and cool comments will not work this time.

Thanks Ms. Crawley for this VERY INTERESTING INFORMATION!!!!! I will post to FB SAVE BLANCHARD ELEMENTARY page.
ReplyDeleteummm...Not a very smart move for him...Better say "Checkmate" and move on...
ReplyDeleteHave to say that this does not surprise me at all. I want to thank you for interest you gave to our children at Blanchard Elementary and also for the way you have conducted yourself in letting us know how these things have been handled. I in now way envy you this job but wish that I could understand how this man ever got his job in the first place and hoping that they will not extend his contract.I know that something must be done my suggestion is to get rid of him!
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you vote "no" on the contract then move to have a performance review. After all, other personnel in the parish school system are required to have performance reviews - particularly teachers. Before the Board votes for any contract it would be well if they determine whether the supertendent has lived up to his current contract. He is playing politics and that is not the way to educate children.
ReplyDelete"I don't even think I will be able to intelligently speak or breathe if I find out that he gets a raise of any kind. Our checks are already less this year with no promise of any sort of raise for the hard working teachers of Caddo Parish. More work, more students, no discipline which creates even more work, testing pressures, and less pay for us while he gets a raise? Just say NO!"
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a NO vote is called for. I'm like you...if I don't have the information in time to read and think about it, I figure it is a trick, and I vote NO. This man is bad. He needs to GO! The sooner the better!
ReplyDeleteVision 2020 is a disaster. We were not 20 million in the red when this bow-tie guy arrived. My check was another ten dollars or so down again this month...not sure why. I am trying my best to get a job in another parish. Our step raises don't amount to more than $20 a month and we aren't even getting those.
ReplyDeleteI say vote no. If skin color is so important, get Ollie Tyler back. Or maybe just listen to MLK and judge on character alone.
My understanding is that back in Michigan he got them in the same situation that we are in financially then decided to get out. Let's not let him decide.......let's get rid of him and hire someone from the South that knows our people. We are totally different down here than up there. VOTE NO!!!!
ReplyDeletePlease vote "NO"!!! It appears to me that he is just sitting back and collecting a check while others do his work! It is absolutely ridiculous that he didn't even have the decency to meet with any parents/teachers about the Vision 2020 plan! If we don't get rid of him soon, our school system is going to be in worse shape than the one in Michigan (that still has not recovered)!!!
ReplyDeleteIf I were Dawkins, I would be ashamed of myself for destroying this school system! It appears to me that he doesn't care about the teachers, the parents, or the students..all he cares about it sitting back and collecting a big check that he earns by doing absolutely nothing! I think our children deserve much better than this!
ReplyDeleteWhere is the money he says we are saving with 4 day work weeks in the summer? Who can produce data on this ? I hate four day summer workdays with longer days. It is barely enough time to adjust to new sleep pattern . We are all underproductive on this crazy idea of his. Why doesnt he ask opinions of those working??
ReplyDeleteI think that to who must is given much is required. No one has to ask me to advocate for my students. I do not ask for more money, resources, or even help, however I do ask to not be hindered! I strongly feel that our priorities are backwards in this parish. There are call networks being set up as I type this. I will see you there if the guards are not posted refusing entry as was the case on the last meeting that I tried to attend.
ReplyDeleteMs. Charlotte please move to North Caddo Parish and represent us. I am tired of fence riding and the talking out of both sides of the mouth by our represenitive. Please vote no on the contract extension so we can move to cancel this vision 20/20 plan.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Crawley, I am so proud of you and Mr.Hooks you have stayed the course by supporting your districts well. If you stand for nothing you will fall for anything and that's what other other board members are doing. We are suppose to listen to the individuals who put you in office and the superintendent suppose to listen to each of you, but I can't see that happening. Do you get to visit with him weekly and sometimes daily as he does with other board members. Please stay the course.Ask your board members to tell you why they were gone last week to a conferece that cost a few thousand of our dollars $$.How much of the taypayer dollars did you spend and you din't give employee a raise. What about the students needing many services. To thou own self be true.!!!!!!!!!!!!
