May Is For Graduations

Chase is my oldest grandchild.  He has now completed 5th grade and will move on to middle school next year. 

While Chase and his parents posed for photos, little sister is busy looking at the book Chase wrote and illustrated about his life.

 When my son, Paxton, finished 5th grade, it didn't impress me as a milestone. But now, I realize that it is one large step toward graduating from high school, which leads to a tearful drive home after spending the day moving him into a college dorm, from which he never returns to live at home again.

 I did see a few tears in Chase's mother's eyes when they showed the video of the 5th graders which included pictures from their Kindergarten year through 5th grade.  Gee, how time flies and how they change.

But the next evening, I was delivering greetings on behalf of the School Board at C.E. Byrd High School's graduation.  

Our current Superintendent wanted the high school graduations to be more formal and for the school board members to be more involved. So board members now wear their college graduation robes and each is assigned a high school graduation to give greetings and congratulations from the School Board and stand with the principal and superintendent to shake each student's hand as they cross the stage to receive their diplomas.

Byrd is by far the largest high school in Caddo and had 478 graduates this year. My legs and hand was very tired after that.  I never look forward to going, but I always love it when I'm there.  



Some students look you in the eyes and give you a firm handshake and some struggle with both.  I even got a couple of hugs from very jubilant young guys.  Those were really cool.

I can say for sure that watching other people's children grow up and a lot easier than watching my own.

Grandparents Day With Connor

I've been such a bad blogger.  So much is going on which gives me a lot of material to blog about, but no time to actually write a post.  Anyway, I'm going to catch up on my writing and reading other blogs.


Last Friday was Grandparents Day for the Kindergarten classes.  I wasn't quite aware of all the expectations.  I understood there was a performance by the Kindergarteners, but then the Grandparent was suppose to check out the grandchild and spend the day with him.  Well, Connor was a guy with a plan with included lunch of his choice and a movie.

My Mom was in town, so she went to the program.












Connor's other set of grandparents came also.  So he had quite a group of fans. 

 The program had a Cowboy theme; which was just up Connor's alley.  He is always trying to ride my little goats when I'm not watching.

Afterward the program, it was off to the Frozen Frog.  Yes, we had yogurt with a large array of toppings for lunch.  I have to admit that's my favorite lunch too.




Then just Connor and I went to see the movie Chimpanzee. On the way to the theater Connor expressed his excitement about going to see Chimpanzee.  He said, "My heart has been hurting to see this movie ever since they said it was coming to the theater."  Like a good grandmother, I did not laugh.  I just said, "I know.  I've wanted to see it too.

He might have had candy, popcorn and coke for dinner.

Family Weekend

This weekend started Friday at 11:30 with a picnic at my grandsons' school in celebration of Eden Gardens Fundamental Magnet Elementary becoming a Blue Ribbon School.  The students really enjoyed having their families and eating out on blankets on the playground.  Congratulations Eden Gardens; it is one of our countries best schools.

Then it was off to Jacquie's for a visit with little Caroline, who is now 3 weeks old.  She is my 4th grandchild and 2nd granddaughter.  

Mother drove in from Arkansas and visited with Caroline.  She is a great addition to our family.

On Saturday, my sister, Debbie drove over and Mother, Carrel and I rode with Debbie to our sister, Sandy's house in Texarkana.  There are 5 girls in our family and the youngest 2 both entered into their 2nd marriage on 11-11-11.  Sandy even got married at 11:11 o'clock.  So we went to celebrate her marriage to Bruce with all their friends.  Sandy got a Dodge Challenger a couple of months ago.  Its color is called Plum Crazy.  I saw it when we went by her house from Tulsa.  I dreamed about that car one night.  Very strange, because cars don't really mean that much to me; at least not when I'm awake.

The LSU tigers will beat the Arkansas Piggies Friday.

Sandy also has a couple of pigs and so hopefully she can bring them to my house Friday for the big LSU hog roast.

I finished up the weekend Sunday afternoon scraping the paint off the goat shack.  When I complained about how hard it was, my son-in-law suggested that I use his heat gun.  Think of it as a super charged blow dryer.  I tried it and it did melt the paint off.  But my husband frowned at the thought of me inhaling lead paint fumes.  It is also slower than scraping, so I went back to scraping this afternoon. My little goats don't expect perfection.
