Football this Weekend

Well, we are having quite a football weekend here.  Tonight Byrd High School will play Carencro in Lafayette Parish for a chance to play in the state championship.  Byrd hasn't been in the semi-finals since 1964.  They haven't been state champions since 1949.  Thursday night's pep rally  http://www.ktbs.com/video/29903872/index.html


LSU will play Georgia tomorrow for the SEC championship.


Sunday the New Orleans Saints will play the Detroit Lions.


I didn't drive to Lafayette, but I will be watching LSU and the Saints games on TV.  The last 2 years I have been watching them from my sewing machine, because I was busy making leather purses.  I thought of this idea in 2010 when the Saints were 11-0 and I just knew they would win the Super Bowl.  I have made a purple and gold LSU purse, but I forgot to take a picture. Looks like the New Orleans Saints, LSU Tigers and the Byrd Yellow Jackets may all be champions this year.  I'm sure that has never happened.  Could this be the year? Maybe I should get busy sewing.  People like to buy purses of winning teams.

Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Works in Some Cases

Usually I'm rather depressed driving home from a great vacation, but this time on the way home from Tennessee, Don and I were driving just east of Atlanta to a goat farm to pick up my herd sire.  When I knew we would be in Tennessee, I started googling Nigerian Goat farms in Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.  North Carolina and Georgia seem to have the most goat farms by far.  I love the internet; it opens up so many possibilities.  I'm not sure Don concurs. I was looking for a blue eyed baby buck that I could bottle feed that also had good bloodlines.  It had to be born less than a month from when we would be headed back home.  Remember, I did the same thing with Google when my sisters and I went to Tulsa, but I got a blue eyed doe.  I want to avoid having a goat that I have not seen shipped on a plane, so if I'm going near there, that's perfect.

We left the farm about 2:30 and knew we would not make it home in one day. 
For one thing, the Saints football game was at 7:00.

So just before we reached Tuscaloosa, Alabama about 6:00, we started looking for a hotel.  Don was very nervous about going into a hotel with a goat.  I was pretty sure we could pull it off. I had bought dry shampoo, in case the little goat smelled and diapers. When we pulled up to The Greystone Hotel, I went over the strategy. I include the picture so you know it was not a flea bag motel.  Don was to look for a "no pets allowed" sign. For sure I told him, don't ask about a pet policy.  I learned the hard way in high school, if you are going to do something, don't ask or tell about it ahead of time. 

Anyway, if Don didn't see such a sign, then ask for a room on the first floor at the far end, where we had already check out a side entrance door with a keypad. It wouldn't be cool to go through the lobby or have to use the elevator with little Billy Shakespeare crying in a pet crate. 

Don was very please when he returned with the keycard to room 101.  I drove to the side, while Don walked down the hall to our room.  It was perfect!  We had discovered that Billy Shakespeare would not use the bathroom in the crate; therefore, I would need to make frequent trips with him out the side door.  

It was a great evening.  We watched the Saints play a great football game, while I fed and played with the new kid. 

A Whole Week Off and What Have I Done?

Counting tomorrow, I will have been completely off for a week; that means not babysitting,  but still doing the household chores of clothes, dishes and cooking etc--.  You understand.

Also, I've met with the deputy tax assessor, met with a concerned citizen about a school board issue, gone to the grocery store twice, walked over and played with the grandkids just about everyday, cleaned out a messy flowerbed and added mulch, worked on Ancestry.com, and played with the goats.

   Actually, all of these things I did to avoid making a cowboy burp cloth that I got an order for last Tuesday on my Etsy site from a lady in Tennessee. Also, with all this time off, I need to mend a pair of my husband's scrubs that have been on the machine for 3 months and Jackie's Boston Red Sox purse I made.  I have a lot of hobbies and I do them in a rather cyclical manner.  I sew and sew until I get rather burned out and then 6 months are more will pass before I sit in front of the machine.  But I have to put the burp cloth in the mail Tuesday.  So far, I have repaired my husband's scrubs.  I am working on the embroidery design, when I'm not checking my e-mail, facebook, or googling for a blue-eye Nigerian Dwarf goat buckling for my 2 little does. So actually, I'm doing everything but completing my recent sewing order.  Maybe the word order is slowing me down.  My mother actually took in sewing when I was growing up. I remember my 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Guice, coming to our house for Mother to alter her clothes.  I didn't like her because she called me Grandma and I was only 10.  But I know, I bossed everyone around.

 Mother warned me that if I started taking orders for my purses, baby items and etc, that it would not be fun anymore. I really think my problem is that I only like to do something twice.  The first time, I am so excited to see if I can do it and the the second time to clean-up the mistakes.  After that I am bored.  I've also made about a dozen New Orleans Saints leather purses, one Cowboys purse, and a couple LSU .  I did change from gold with black to black gator print with gold fleur-de-lis on the Saints purses.

I haven't been blogging, because I should be sewing.  But now that I have started the project, I can blog during break time.
